10 Today

June 15, 2022

I thought it was worth noting that the blog is 10 today. On this day in June 2012, the first post was published by WritingHawk, which you can find here:

From little acorns…

So thanks to all bloggers past and present for all your hard work, to all who visit the site daily, and to those who comment on the posts. All much appreciated. I think it’s safe to say that, all those years ago, we never believed we’d still be going now.

Very pleased to be part of this online community, which is almost invariably more courteous and friendly than any other on-line platform I am familiar with, and the contributors are certainly more erudite!

I lurked without commenting for a while, and I found the site very helpful as I was gaining confidence in learning the language of Crosswordland. I hope others find it useful as well.

And an opportunity to say thank you, Jon, for running the site so successfully for the vast majority of that time – certainly since I made my first tentative visits, when the i still cost 20p!

I’d like to add my thanks to those already expressed. Covid lockdowns would have felt even more isolating without the vicarious communication with like-minded people, and several of my recent medical problems (the less said the better) have been ameliorated by the regular delivery, via the app, no dead tree delivery round here, of a daily challenge to take my attention elsewhere. Also, practice makes perfect, and being then able to share other peoples’ experiences has taught me a great deal about how to solve. The other things I really like about this site are the complete lack of one-upmanship, and the regular admission that one mans’ meat may well be anothers’ poison. Best wishes to all, NDY

I’ve never left a comment before, but wanted to wish idothei a very Happy Birthday and to thank you for all the help, joy and ‘aha’ moments you’ve given me over the past couple of years. I’m a newbie to cryptics, and idothei has been invaluable, helping me pick up the tricks of the trade – and encouraging me to give myself time to look properly at every clue, rather than abandoning my search for the answer with my characteristic impatience. Now I do do two cryptics each day – i and Guardian – and sometimes I even complete them! Happy Birthday and grateful thanks to all of those who keep this site going.

Good to hear from you, and thanks for the kind words! It’s the kind of feedback that makes what we’re doing feel so worthwhile! 🙂

A perennial lurker here too, with just a very few occasional posts. I just appreciate all the help and hints, that often give me enough to complete a puzzle, rather than diving in to 15sq for the answers.

I’m well and truly in the thickos’ corner and my sense of achievement at completing the i cryptic, is frequently dented when I check on here to find its invariably been given a single star!

Thanks ever so for all your efforts, long may you continue.

Late to the (birthday) party but just dropped in to offer my congratulations too. I’m not sure how long ago I discovered the site but I’ve been an occasional commenter (and even submitted a couple of the occasional guest puzzles) for some time before adopting my current pseudonym when i started blogging Wednesday puzzles back in September. How time flies – it doesn’t seem like that long ago!
So all the best for the future and I hope to be blogging as usual next Wednesday.
