i Cryptic Crossword 2469 Commoner

January 7, 2019

A good, thoroughly enjoyable puzzle about which I find little to say. Not because there’s anything amiss but just because there’s nothing to quibble with. All understood while solving, nothing too difficult, not a bad clue. An IoS reprint that was a good pick when many of us are dazed and confused in the middle of the return to work. Oh, and on a day when the office heating has broken down so we’re all sat round in coats. Figures. Mr Ivory from last week’s letters page would be well advised to give this one a look.

COD? 16ac, and a nice bit of wordplay – “Kid about with date after good day by lake (5)”.

Must admit I didn’t get 15 or 26; probably just me being dim. Everything else was smooth & pleasant enough though 🙂

Some very nicely presented clues in this one: highly enjoyable. 5 and 26ac taken together particularly amused me.

Another thumbs up here. Monday’s and Commoner would be something I could happily get used to.

I agree – enjoyable and satisfying. All very straightforward, althpugh I have to own up to not being able to parse OFF THE PEG, and had to turn to Fiftensquared to find out, although I was confident about the answer; I had forgotten about hep=happening.

Another satisfied customer here. I especially liked 1d and 17d

  8. Mt Tortoise kept asking for more straightforward puzzles… Well, here’s one.
