i Cryptic Crossword 2099 Quixote

October 30, 2017

I found this a little trickier in places than par for Quixote, mostly because I made heavy work of my last few in – 4d, 8ac, 9d and 18ac at the very close. I ambled over those last few, coming back to the puzzle when I had time, and still finished in a time under par for the i, so this was still a relatively gentle introduction to the working week.

COD? Lots to enjoy as always, my favourite today being 5d – “Bishop wants someone obsequious, the sort that family might shun (5,5)”.

I failed on 23dn at the end. Hey ho. The rest of it was fine (yes, 9, 8, and 18 were among the last ones for me too, along with 25).
    14ac was quite fun.

Mostly straightforward but 4, 9 and 23dn all proved a bit more difficult to solve. LOI was 23dn, I don’t know any fast women unfortunately. My favourite was 3dn.

I thought this exceptionally fine – Quixote at his very best.
Given that everyone else thought it typical for the Don in this guise, I suppose I must have just been in a good mood or something – despite my grumpy countenance…

I thought this was exceedingly good too, not that it lasted long.

After my grumpy chumps comments about Friday’s puzzle, I should belatedly come on here to heap praise on yesterday’s. Perfect start to the week IMO and an enjoyable solve. It took me a while to work out why Heep meant someone obsequious. I need to brush up on my Dickens

  6. I like Mondays. A very do-able start to the week…
