i Cryptic Crossword 1886 Hypnos

February 23, 2017

Well, I got all but four clues in pretty sharpish time, but those last four took an absolute age to get. The offenders? 11d, 10ac, 18ac and 16d. I note that the original blogger couldn’t make head or tail of 18ac, and I think it’s more than a little tenuous, but I’m not sure whether it’s just me with the rest, or whether they were genuinely tricky. Let me know how you got on.

COD? 15ac – ‘Expression shown by sherpa possibly? (4,2,6)’.

Our first IoS reprint of the week comes from the end of September, 2012:

Quite easygoing for a Thursday, I thought, (and for Hypnos), but with the odd thorny bit. 18ac went in with a shrug, and having seen the blog I’m none the wiser. 10 and 16 were my favourites today, however.

Tuesday’s Glow-Worm was an IoS puzzle too, by the way.

I’m a sucker for those build-your-own anagram clues, so loved todays CoD. Otherwise quite uneven I thought, with 18a the oddest, but still undoubtedly plenty to like.

With the exception of the aforementioned 18a it was all pretty accessible. It was 25a that caught my eye.
