i Cryptic Crossword 1813 Dac

November 30, 2016

An enjoyable solve as ever from Dac, perhaps on the easier side for him. What more can you say? The usual excellent puzzle he produces week after week.

COD? 5ac – ‘Potentially lousy sort in school? (6)’.

Back to July 2012, where there’s some discussion about the abbreviation used in 21ac. TBH, the synonym for ‘Expert’ threw me more.

I thought it was on the tougher side for Dac. πŸ™‚ All good, although 1d is one of those words which are only to be found in selected dictionaries, and extinct in the wild. Unusual for him to have recourse to one of those. Agreed on the COD, but there were some strong runners up too which would grace any crossword, 4 and 18 being my favourites.

The couple of relative obscurities (like 1dn) were clued clearly enough that I was able to finish this relatively quickly and without any complaints – though I agree on the “R” unfamiliarity (the fifteensquared commenters noted that it’s ecclesiastical/liturgical, which would account for me not knowing it! πŸ˜› )
