i Cryptic Crossword 1673 Quixote
June 20, 2016
A fairly gentle start to the week from Quixote, though with a little sting in the tail (for me at least) at 2d, where there’s a little obscurity in the wordplay.
COD? 11ac – ‘Puts forward a proposal to get some battalion into action (6,1,6)’.

PS 3ac in today’s five-clue cryptic was, I thought, quite neat.
It was 19d, 23 and 18a that I spent far too long dithering over. Think 18a would be my pick today.
Had a hard time calling Tim to mind, for all that the answer was staring me in the face. I liked 18ac too.
I rather liked 1a and 23a. My last ones in were 16d and 24a. Every long clue an anagram, I noticed – which is quite often the case with The Don when he has his Quixote hat on.
If someone can explain, also, why there is (was?) a link to the blog on the Watford Observer website? Strange things are afoot at the Circle K…
