i Cryptic Crossword 1613 Quixote

April 11, 2016

A fairly gentle start to the week, though I did get a bit hung up in the SW corner for a while. Last in 19/20d. As Anax commented on the original blog, a good crossword for improving solvers. Has anybody used a 19d or smoked 26ac since the 60’s?

COD? 15d – ‘Wee fellow reckoned to be most important? (6,3)’.

Re your hasheesh/ hookah question, I couldn’t possibly comment, but I always pronounced the latter just like the rugby forward, so I’m nonplussed by Quixote’s ‘posh’ bit.

I’ve never had cause to pronounce it before now, but suspect I might be tempted to emphasise the ooo.

Furthermore, has anybody used that spelling in the last hundred years? Hookah pipes are still popular in shisha lounges I’m told … or perhaps that should be sheesha.

I was in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago and found hookas for sale in quite a few specialist shops. I wasn’t tempted.
