i Cryptic Crossword 1287 Quixote

March 26, 2015

This took me a while longer than the usual Quixote, though as the original bloggers found it about par, I suspect that’s just me. 6d was quite tricky, I thought. Last in 16ac and 15d.

COD? 5ac – ‘Disorder created by madame bumping into celebrity (7)’.

Here’s the 2010 blog:

Nothing going here today for me. Just the three answers then a wall of blank. Too many of those cryptic clichés and not enough anagrams or hidden clues to give me a chance to get stuck in. Shame.

Wasn’t sure about Agama even after writing it in and parsing it correctly! And what’s going on? Quixote twice in one week? Something must be brewing for a themed puzzle on April 1st next week, methinks…

We’ve had Quixote twice a week in the past, usually when the editor was trying to be kinder to us in terms of difficulty. 😉 But I suspect as April 1st is coming you might be right.

I had exactly the same suspicion … we’ll see next week!

Just like Cornick, I was unfamiliar with, and had to go check, ‘agama’ – plus I must admit I wasn’t familiar with the Arun. :-/

Those two aside, it was fairly straightforward for me (phew!).

      No, there wasn’t!

Heh, 6d was the first in for me but then my partner is from that part of the world and is back there visiting family at the moment, so it really jumped out at me.
