i Cryptic Crossword 1264 Klingsor

February 27, 2015

With two operas and an obscure musical term at 1d, this played to none of my strengths. It’s a credit to the excellent clueing that I managed to finish in just above par time, and enjoyed the solve too. Was I the only person to put in BIG FIGHT for 9ac and then spend too long staring at 2d before correcting?

COD? 13 and 21ac – ‘He’s captivated by girl on high note in opera (9)’.

Here’s the 2010 blog:

NW corner was still the trickiest, I thought, even if you guessed bun fight first time.
Given that this was Klingsor’s debut in the Independent and that he has just completed his 50th puzzle over there, I calculate we at the i can expect him about once a month from now on. Good!
And if you do visit his excellent website (there’s a link in the original blog) then you’ll find it filled with advice and scores of free cryptics; most are by Klingsor/Alberich but many are by guest setters, including Anax – oh, and the latest one he’s posted is by me!
