i Cryptic Crossword 1096 Morph

August 14, 2014

Lovely stuff as ever from Morph. I made good headway, then came unstuck with 5 at the end which took an age. One of these, 1ac, could have done with rewriting to bring it up to date, and therefore coherent (and as easy as it would originally have been!) without knowing when this was first published.

COD? 18d – ‘Paddington’s point of departure, and leads to Slough, Acton, Langley and Reading (7)’.

The 2009 blog is complete.

What a treat! Loved this. 1ac, 7d, 21ac, 5d etc etc. HOWEVER does the i not have anyone resposible for these crosswords? It is surely not beyond the wit of man to change ‘Michael Martin’ to ‘John Bercow’ and ‘party leader’ to ‘prime minister’!

Sporadically we do get revisions of old puzzles, so I’m not sure what’s going on. Rush job?

I filled in the bottom half pretty quickly and then struggled a lot with the top half. Got there in the end, with some help. Didn’t much like 11ac, TBH

Yes, Morph does seem to have the occasional blind spot. He could have had ‘icing’ (easy to clue) instead of that nasty ‘incog.’ And then maybe ‘Pennine’ (or others) crossing instead of ‘panache’.
