i Cryptic Crossword 786 Quixote

I thought there were some tricky corners in this puzzle from Quixote, but the original blogger seems to have made short work of it. The old blog is complete:

    Yes, very quick progress until I got held up badly by 4 or 5 at the end, 13ac amongst them. I especially liked 18ac and 16d.

    • Yes, 18ac is nice (“Uncouth way of speaking (6)”). 16d doesn’t make any sense to me. It’s a supposed elusive definition, and the answer could be almost anything (“Kept in good order”). Of the three main words in the clue, I don’t see how two of them (kept, good) have any connection with the solution.

        I think the question mark at the end saves it. You could argue that we could do without the ‘good’, but I think it helps nudge the solver in the right direction. ‘Kept’ in the order is monastic life?
