i Cryptic Crossword 664 Dac
March 27, 2013
A little more difficult than we’re used to on a Wednesday, with a few definitions that caught me out. eg. 4d. The old Fifteensquared blog is complete, so it’s just left to pick a COD. For me, 6d – ‘Broke, like Mark Knopfler (2,4,7)’.

Hi
Can someone explain 8 down please? Still not entirely sure from the fifteensquared blog.
Thanks
Yup! The answer is the Regency architect John Nash. Reading backwards (‘put up’), we have H (= Hospital) and SAN (= sanitorium or hospital), so ‘two versions of hospital’.
Ah, thank you! Been doing these for about 8 or 9 months now, sometimes I’m completely at a loss – I got that it was going backwards but had a total brain freeze on san. Thanks a lot
26A; I found “broadcast on radio” a strange indicator for homonyms.
23D: As the original blogger, I felt “drink” should be plural.
