Nothing too difficult here, thankfully, as a course in work is claiming most of my day. A few very nice clues, particularly 12ac, 4d, and 22ac, with the latter getting my vote for COD (They say you tether a mate for bull? (6)). The few queries I had regarding wordplay were all ably answered by:

Won’t have time to finish this until tonight, but here’s a link to the old blog in the meantime:

525 Quixote

An added challenge today, in that most of the down clues were omitted in the paper. To make up for it, we had most the acrosses twice. 🙂

Here’s the link published this morning to the missing clues:

Luckily, I didn’t find this too difficult, only floundering at the end on 1ac and 14ac. COD 10ac.

A feast from Merlin. I needed the original blog to understand why I had the right answer to 7dn – a real head-slapping moment. And why has no female music group called themselves BROADBAND? (Perhaps they have.) Other high points are 4dn: “Aristotle unsure about life-threatening gamble (7,8)”, and 5dn “Maybe snub something for tea (6-4,5)”, though the latter is almost as head-slapping as 7.

This will be my last blog before Christmas! Any volunteers?

Reasonably challenging – I found that I had about half the clues in, some very quickly, before I slowed down rapidly, struggling especially with 21ac and 10ac. Completely failed to notice the Nina(s).

As I only had a short time to solve today, luckily I found it easier than the original blogger:

520 Virgilius

October 9, 2012

No theme, apparently, though I kept looking for one throughout. I was as surprised as the original blogger regarding 26ac, nothing too surprising in the rest of the puzzle, just the usual quality Virgilius clues. COD the very clever 25ac (What’s taken from collective enterprise to make coop? (6)).

519 Quixote

October 8, 2012

A nice gentle start to the week from Quixote, nothing too taxing. It might be an old chestnut, but I really liked 20d.

Apologies for the late posting, I didn’t get a chance to solve this properly yesterday. Very difficult, as the original blogger noted:
